22. Wetland restoration at Hook's Cross

Theme: Water Quality, Habitats and Wildlife

Objective:

  • That whatever the flow level, the river and its associated habitats, including banks and floodplains, are managed to support chalk stream species

Project description

This project aims to enhance the river and its floodplain in this area, restoring a small wetland area by a variety of measures.

This area of river has a problem with Giant Hogweed. An annual programme of spraying before they set seed needs to be established.

The form of the channel could also be improved, by the installation of deflectors and other restoration techniques.

The surrounding floodplain area could be turned into a mini wetland, with benefits for a range of species
