12. Keeping the River Mimram clean at Sherrardswood

Themes: Water Quality, Habitats and Wildlife; People

Objectives:

  • That whatever the flow level, the river and its associated habitats, including banks and floodplains, are managed to support chalk stream species
  • To increase the public's appreciation of the unique chalk stream environment and their participation in its conservation

Project description

The pupils and groundstaff of Sherradswood School will keep their stretch of the river free from debris/litter and invasive plantspecies.

The groundstaff and pupils will undertake periodic cleaning of the river by the school, for example removing litter and accumulated debris. Invasive plant species will also be tackled, and where appropriate, maintenance of the riverbank.  As well as helping the river, this will allow the pupils to learn more about the river and its ecology.
