21. Fish Passage at Wheathampstead Mill

Project description
This project is to enable fish passage along the River Lea by removing barriers to migration.
An historic mill sluice in the centre of Wheathampstead prevents fish from migrating along the River Lea.
A technical fish pass was installed by the Environment Agency many years ago when the sluice was upgraded to allow fish to bypass the structure. However, the pass is not functioning fully and requires adjustment to enable all species of fish to use it.
The EA are investigating options to improve functionality of the fish pass and intend to implement a design change to enable fish to migrate freely around the mill sluice.
